Where to place the well
- •Place wells on underground water veins (required unless you turned that setting off), as close as possible to the burgage plots they will serve.
- •Plan housing blocks near the water veins you find; each wooden well supplies about 15 plots, so budget one per block of that size.
- •A larger town needs several wells or stone upgrades; count plots per well (about 15 wooden, 50 stone) rather than tiling circles.
- •Keep wells close to the homes they serve rather than next to industry, since their only job is residential water access.
- •When laying out a new neighbourhood, find a water vein first and make sure the district's plot count fits your wells' capacity so no homes are stranded at Level 1.
Strategy & timing
- •Build a well early once you start raising your first burgage plots, because water access gates Level 2 upgrades along with fuel and food.
- •Add a well, or upgrade one to stone, each time your plot count outgrows your wells' capacity rather than relying on one well for the whole town.
- •Wells are cheap and fast to place, so it's better to over-provide coverage than to leave a row of plots unable to upgrade.
Common mistakes
- ×Placing a single wooden well and expecting it to serve an entire growing town; it supplies only about 15 plots, leaving the rest stuck at Level 1.
- ×Forgetting that wells must sit on an underground water vein, then planning a district where no well can be placed.

Why won't my burgage plots upgrade past Level 1?
