Marketplace

civic

Central trading hub. Stalls served from your granary and storehouse supply nearby burgage plots — required for plot upgrades.

Footprint sizes in Manor Lordsvary by patch and (for burgage plots) by how you draw them in-game. Use the planner's drag-to-size tool to match what you see on your map — we don't hardcode any dimensions here.

Where to place the marketplace

  • Place it central to your residential cluster so the largest number of burgage plots fall inside the stalls' supply radius.
  • Keep it close to the granary and storehouse, since the families running stalls walk back and forth to restock them.
  • Leave open ground around the plaza for many stalls to appear; a cramped spot limits how many vendors can set up.
  • Connect it to the main road network so it sits on the path between supply buildings and homes.
  • Avoid placing it at the far edge of town where outer plots fall out of reach and stay un-upgradable.

Strategy & timing

  • Build one early, as soon as you have a granary or storehouse with goods to distribute and homes that want upgrading.
  • A single well-placed marketplace can serve a sizable village; add a second only when a town grows so large that one can't cover all districts.
  • More variety at the stalls (different foods, fuel, clothing) raises homestead supply levels and unlocks higher burgage tiers.
  • Ensure storehouse and granary jobs are staffed, since empty market stalls mean no distribution regardless of placement.

Common mistakes

  • ×Placing it too far from homes so plots can't be upgraded and residents complain about access.
  • ×Building it before stocking any food or goods, leaving stalls empty and useless.
  • ×Boxing it in with buildings so only a couple of stalls can spawn, starving the supply network.

Frequently asked

Why won't my burgage plots upgrade even though I have a marketplace?

The plot must be within the market's supply range and the market must actually be distributing the required goods. Check that stalls are stocked and that the home meets the food and fuel variety requirements for the next tier.

Do I need more than one marketplace?

Usually not for a small or medium village. Add a second marketplace only when your town spreads out enough that some districts fall outside a single market's reach.

Who staffs the market stalls?

Stalls are run by the families working in your granary and storehouse. The more of those storage workers you have, the more stalls appear to distribute goods.
