Wooden Palisade

defensive

Light defensive wall built from sharpened logs. Blocks bandits and basic raiders.

Footprint sizes in Manor Lordsvary by patch and (for burgage plots) by how you draw them in-game. Use the planner's drag-to-size tool to match what you see on your map — we don't hardcode any dimensions here.

Where to place the wooden palisade

  • Run the palisade along natural chokepoints, hills, and terrain edges so you fortify with less wall and force attackers into narrow approaches.
  • Place gates where your main roads cross the wall line so trade and villager movement isn't blocked.
  • Enclose the core you most want to protect (market, key buildings, housing) rather than trying to wall the entire territory at once.
  • Build the line with room to reposition militia behind it, leaving space for defenders to mass at threatened sections.
  • Use the terrain; backing walls against steep slopes or water reduces the frontage you have to garrison.

Strategy & timing

  • Build palisades before raids escalate, prioritizing the approaches enemies are most likely to use.
  • Walls are most effective combined with militia; the wall slows attackers while your troops fight from advantage at the gates.
  • Treat wooden walls as an early-to-mid defense and upgrade or supplement key sections with stronger fortifications as threats grow.

Common mistakes

  • ×Walling off the whole map perimeter, which wastes resources and leaves too much frontage to defend.
  • ×Leaving gaps or forgetting gates, so either enemies slip through or your own villagers and trade get blocked.
  • ×Relying on the wall alone without militia to actually hold the gates and threatened sections.

Frequently asked

Will a wooden palisade stop all attackers?

It blocks bandits and basic raiders and channels them toward gates, but it's a light wall best paired with militia and upgraded for tougher threats.

Where should I build my walls?

Along chokepoints and natural terrain features, enclosing your most valuable core area with gates on your main roads.

Do I need soldiers if I have walls?

Yes. Walls slow and funnel enemies but don't fight on their own; militia stationed behind them are what actually repel an assault.
